Guar gum is made by cleaning, drying and crushing the endosperm of Guar seeds after peeling and germinating, adding water, hydrolyzing under pressure, precipitating with 20% ethanol, centrifuging, drying and crushing. Commercial glue is generally white to light yellow brown free-flowing powder, close to no smell, no other odor, generally containing 75% to 85% polysaccharide, 5% to 6% protein, 2% to 3% fiber and 1% ash.
Guar gum is a kind of non-ionic galactomannan extracted from the endosperm of Guar bean. Guar gum and its derivatives have good water solubility and high viscosity at low mass fraction. Because of this characteristic, it is used in many aspects, such as papermaking, medicine, textile printing and dyeing.
Guar gum is a white to light yellowish brown free-flowing powder, nearly odorless, can be dispersed in hot or cold water to form a viscous liquid, the viscosity of 1% solution is about 3000mPa·S, adding a small amount of sodium tetrborate is converted into a gel. After being dispersed in cold water for about 2h, the viscosity is very strong, and then the viscosity gradually increases, reaching the highest point in 24h. The viscosity is 5 ~ 8 times that of starch paste, and the high viscosity is quickly reached when heated. The aqueous solution is neutral, the viscosity of pH6 ~ 8 is high, and the viscosity of pH10 and above decreases rapidly. In the range of pH6.0 ~ 3.5, the viscosity also decreases with the decrease of pH. The viscosity increases again below pH3.5.
